Technical paper: Using automated batch job
scheduling to reduce cost, improve service
levels and facilitate compliance

Abstract

Industry analysts generally agree that among network and systems management applications, automated job scheduling software ranks among the most proven in terms of return on investment and maturity of the products. Indeed, Gartner cite it as the best proven option in the context of its Network and Systems Management hype cycle.

Recent legislation such as Sarbanes-Oxley and the European directives provides a further incentive for organisations to implement best practice and standards, and to automate processes where possible to ensure they are carried out as designed. By implementing automated batch job scheduling, human error can be reduced significantly and access control strengthened. This can be reinforced by the encapsulaton of interactive processes so that all IT operations policies are enforced by software, while being monitored and audited.

This white paper discusses a job scheduling and IT operations workflow management solution for mid to large size organizations running UNIX, Linux and Microsoft Windows. It produces benefits in efficiency, control, improved service levels, security, auditing and compliance.
